If you’re like me, every night you make sure to plug your smartphone into its charger so it’s at 100% the next day. But how do you recharge so that you feel your best — spiritually, physically, and emotionally?

What are your power outlets — the things that keep you energized and fulfilled?

I’m not talking about downtime, like binging on a new Netflix series (though that definitely has its place!). Downtime helps you rest and unwind. But true recharging? That’s about feeding your soul when it needs it most.

Discovering My “Power Outlet”

Some people feel energized by their careers. My husband, for example, works in education and loves teaching kids and nurturing their curiosity.

But maybe you’re more like me. While I built a successful career, over time I realized something was missing. For me, that missing piece is writing — especially fiction and scripts.

After college, I focused on earning a living and being independent. I couldn’t figure out how to blend my creative side with my career, so I packed away my writing for 20 years.

Now, thanks to encouragement and coaching, I’m finding my way back.

Making Space to Create

I’ll be honest — I’m able to pursue my creative outlet because of the support I’ve received from my husband, my supervisor, and my faith. I kept hearing a quiet voice inside telling me it was time to pause, pivot, and pursue this “power” outlet.

After working up the nerve to have some honest conversations I pulled one plug out — and reduced my workweek to just under four days.

I use one of those days to head to Starbucks. With my Venti Strawberry Lemonade Acai, headphones, and laptop, I sit and write. The steady aroma of coffee, the sounds of the steam wand hissing, and the mild chatter and movement of customers offer a comforting rhythm.

At first, it was anything — and it was scary not knowing my direction. I started journaling. Then came poems, song lyrics — until one day a storyline began to reveal itself, playing like a movie in my imagination.

I can’t take credit for it — only for creating the space to invite love and let something right and good come through.

Some call it energy, flow, or creative inspiration. For me, it feels like being guided by God.

To stay aligned, I trust that voice and keep my thoughts rooted in gratitude and intention.

Each time I do, that flow finds me again.

The Practice of Recharging

It takes work. Distractions sneak in all the time. Music helps. Putting the smartphone away helps even more.

But most of all, having faith and humility reminds me that I can’t do it alone — and that realization is the beginning of my best recharge.

Why bother to plug-in to what’s calling you? Because whatever it is feeds your soul. It nourishes you. It makes you better at being … you.

The Power of Listening to Your Inner Voice

If you’re like me, it’s easy to let the pressures of life obstruct your joyful expression.

Whether you love your job or just work for a paycheck, finding your outlet teaches you important things about yourself. It can relieve stress and inner unrest. It can spark new creativity, reinvigorate you, and even lead to unexpected opportunities — maybe even new income streams.

It can also connect us with people who share your passions, expanding your community and sense of belonging. In those safe spaces, you can reveal your authentic self and build relationships that truly enrich your life.

Your Turn to Plug In

If you feel that voice inside urging you to find your power – listen.

Start by sharing your thoughts with someone you trust. Then take just ten minutes today to reconnect with what lights you up.

Because this process is one of discovery — of new creative flow, experiences, people, and community. Even if your first attempt doesn’t fully recharge you, you’ll still have learned something valuable about yourself.

That’s part of life, isn’t it? To grow, love, learn, and give back — using the energy that’s uniquely yours.

So tell me —  what outlet will you plug into next?
